Essential oils can be very helpful in any number of emergencies. Many people only think of essential oils as pretty smell or a natural perfume. Essential oils are so much more. Many Essential Oils repel virus, bacteria, and other microbes and have antiseptic properties.

If you have essential oils in your home and are not using them in your first aid kit, you are missing a powerful tool that could help you in all kinds of situations.

By "First Aid Kit" I don't mean a literal box with oils in it. I mean oils kept on hand for various types of emergencies. They could be on a shelf in the bathroom, in the medicine cabinet, on your night table, in a basket, in a special oils cupboard, in an oils pouch in your purse or as in my case, all of the above.

Your choices for emergency oils might be very different from mine. There are so many possibilities and everyone is different in what they prefer to use. For example, cuts and scrapes - there are many oils that you could choose to clean and disinfect the wound. Some choices could be: lavender, lemon, Melrose, melaleuca alternifolia (commonly called tea tree oil), or many others.

Several oils I will always keep well stocked for whatever emergency might come up: lavender, peppermint, Valor, Trauma Life, PanAway, Thieves, Peace & Calming, Christmas Spirit, Joy, Purification, lemon, helichrysum and Melrose. I have many others I like to keep on hand but these are the ones I make sure I never run out of.

If I could only use three oils, I would choose lavender, peppermint and Valor. Thankfully I have many more than three.

One of the new Young Living oils from Ecuador is called Palo Santo. It is also offered at 10% discount until April 15th. Palo Santo is a wonderful oil distilled from dead wood, tree has to be dead two years before the oil starts to come in. The dead tree is ground into sawdust to produce the most oil. The darker the sawdust, the more oil that is produced. It takes 6 hours for 1 distillation.

Palo Santo is similar to frankincense. It has different constituents but some of the same such as pinene and limonene which is higher in Palo Santo. Also has high levels of Alpha-Terpineol and Carvacrol.

Palo Santo is very high LIMONENE, 55-65%, which is antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-tumoral and immune stimulating.

Cinnamon, a spice added to breads and other bakery items, soon may also be an ingredient in the wrapper around the bread as a way to keep out mold.

In addition to its sweet, woody aroma, cinnamon has long been known for its capacity to stop spoilage. It was one of the ingredients used by ancient Egyptian embalmers, who may not have known about microbes, but could see the effect of the spice.

The Winter season is closing in on us again. Of course along with this comes the threat of increased colds and viruses, which seem to flourish in the cooler, damper seasons. I love the power therapeutic grade essential oils give me for protecting myself and my family from the multitude of germs that continually bombard us. Many essential oils repel bacteria, virus, microbes, infection, fungus, are antiseptic, and a host of other things. 

My favorite oil blend for fighting colds, flu and other virus germs has always been Thieves. Now we have the Thieves line of products to go with the blend. I use the Thieves Household Cleaner to clean all surfaces in my home where germs are likely to be deposited or picked up. Places in the home that are thriving with bacteria are door knobs, bathroom faucets, table tops, and counter tops are a few examples.

Bacteria is spread in many ways but one way is by picking it up whenever you touch anything. After you pick up the germs, you may touch your eyes, nose or mouth and transfer it into your body. Washing hands regularly is a good way to prevent the spread of germs. I keep Thieves Household Cleaner next to very sink in my home for washing hands. I also use it to wash my face. There are no dangerous chemicals in any of Young Living products. 

Use your oils when you are out in public. Rub the oil on your hands to kill any germs you pick up on surfaces. Thieves Spray and Thieves Wipes are also great for killing germs you pick up when you are out in public places. I prefer the Thieves Spray. You can spritz some of the spray in your mouth if you have a sore throat. 

Add about 30 drops of essential oil to 4-6 oz. glass spray bottle filled with water, shake well and use it to spray germy surfaces. Some oils I use are Thieves, Clove, Lavender. Lemon, Orange, Oregano or whatever combination you like. This can be sprayed on surfaces where germs will be found. Be sure to shake before you spray if you decide to try this idea.

I also regularly diffuse essential oils to kill any germs in the air.

THIEVES OIL BLEND

Thieves is a "must have" for everyone, especially during the cold and flu season. It was created from research about the thieves during the 16th century plague in England who rubbed oils all over their bodies to protect themselves while they were robbing the dead and dying. It is a proprietary blend of pure essential oils tested at Weber State University for its potent germ killing properties. Thieves was found to have a 99.96 percent kill rate against airborne bacteria.

Below is a quote from Gary Young about how he found the formula for the THIEVES oil blend
